How to Write a Wedding Speech

May 7, 2026

Writing a speech is nerve-wracking. Follow this guide for a toast that is memorable for the right reasons.

Writing a speech is difficult. Start by introducing yourself. Thank the hosts. Tell a short, personal story about the couple. Keep it appropriate. Compliment the couple. End with a toast to their future. "To health, to happiness, and to a lifetime of love." Keep your speech short. 3 to 5 minutes is perfect. Practice, practice, practice. Memorize the opening and closing lines. It is okay to have notecards. Do not drink too much before your speech. Do not roast the couple. People remember the bad speeches.
