Wedding Thank You Card Etiquette

May 7, 2026

Thank you cards are non-negotiable. Follow these etiquette rules to write thoughtful notes.

Thank you cards are required. Send them within three months of the wedding. Send them for every gift, whether you liked it or not. Handwrite each note. Do not type. Be specific. Mention the actual gift and how you will use it. Mention the wedding. For cash gifts, be specific about how you plan to use the money. Do not mention the amount. Send a note for attendance even if the guest did not bring a gift. Their presence was a gift. Send a note to vendors who went above and beyond. The best time to write notes is on the honeymoon. It is a good use of downtime.
