First Look vs Traditional Reveal
May 6, 2026
Deciding whether to have a first look is a major choice. Weigh the pros and cons of seeing each other before the ceremony.
A first look is a private moment where the couple sees each other before the ceremony. The traditional reveal is when the bride walks down the aisle. A first look allows you to complete most photos before the ceremony, so you can attend your entire cocktail hour. It also calms nerves and provides better light for photos. On the other hand, a traditional reveal preserves the raw emotion of the aisle moment and the anticipation of surprise. There is no right answer. Talk with your partner about your priorities. You can also do a "first touch" — hold hands around a corner without seeing each other for connection without the full reveal.
